Audiology experts in Blackpool have pledged to support the British Tinnitus Association (BTA).
During Tinnitus Awareness Week (5-11 February), staff at Specsavers Audiologists in Blackpool are raising awareness of the importance of keeping your hearing healthy, prompting all customers to visit the store for a hearing test.
Craig McGill, store director at Specsavers in Blackpool, says: ‘Tinnitus is a surprisingly common problem, affecting 10 per cent of UK adults*.
‘Music is everywhere these days so everyone is at risk of hearing damage. Whether you’re listening to it through headphones on the daily commute, at your favourite bands’ gigs or even just spending a lot of time in noisy restaurants, the noise level can be very loud. Overexposure to loud volume can seriously affect our hearing. In fact, it only takes one instance of overexposure to cause permanent damage so it’s always best to protect your hearing before you lose it.
‘Taking regular breaks when listening to loud music, or just turning the volume down to a safe level, can help maintain healthy hearing. Many smartphones now have a handy colour-coded volume control which indicates when the noise level is high.’
Experts recommend a hearing test every two years for those over 55 or for anyone with a hearing loss.
